Curious about Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in your classroom? Want to know more about updates in the field and how SEL is changing in response to COVID and calls for racial equity? If you want a space to talk about building culturally responsive relationships, supporting youth agency, connection and decision-making, join us for this not-to-miss SEL Fall Training Series.

This 3-Part Series aims to deepen your understanding and sharpen your skills while you learn together with your peers. Themes over the three sessions will include:
· SEL definitions and models
· Culturally responsive SEL
· Integrating SEL into your own curriculum.

The third session will be focused on sharing how you will incorporate the themes covered across the series.

SEL has never been more important than now. The recent report, Rebuilding for a New Normal, (https://www.gse.harvard.edu/news/uk/20/09/rebuilding-new-normal), published by the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Partnership for Resilience, emphasized that the continued impact of living through the pandemic is creating high levels of emotional stress for youth and families. The report underscored the importance of creating a sense of care and safety in our interactions with youth and their families through understanding and emphasizing SEL.

Thus, as always, our AFCOST training and OST programs are based upon your interactions with youth and their families. There will be time for personal reflection and group discussion, and all levels and experience are welcome. Each session is 90 min. Participants are expected to attend all 3 sessions in the series to receive Professional Development Credit, as each session will build upon content from the prior session. (If there’s more demand for this series than we can accommodate, we will consider offering it again in another time slot.)

We will be on Zoom for now, and registration details will be sent to you just before the Series begins!

Learning goals for the Series:
· Definition and overview of culturally responsive social emotional learning and development for youth
· Exploring how SEL can be supportive to students this year
· Understanding my own SEL mindset and how it impacts my work with youth

Participant takeaways for the series:
· Complete emotional styles self-assessment
· Create an SEL checklist for activity design with SEL resources and tools
· Design or develop a curriculum model infused with culturally-responsive SEL
